Ramblings #1256

7.46am – Tuesday. Bright & sunny. Will I continue to see that when I grow old?

It’s a good day for moving and so I have decided to move my seat today at 9am. I’m not sure still if that was a good decision, but it was from my opinion, the best decision at that point in time.

There are stuffs which are still outstanding and I will have to clear it as soon as possible. Wouldn’t want to have too many backlogs.

Back at home, things are getting messy again. Little milkie is having her school holidays and everyday, I will have to nag her to clear up my room. Even for myself, things are piling up too.

The mind is a little clouded these days though. And it didn’t help with that struggle to let it go.

“Once upon a time, there was a little bird who is so carefree. Flying high up in the sky. One day, another bird asked it to come down, offering her some food. It gladly came but who knows, it’s leg got entangled by a thread. The other bird flew away and it was left all alone. Many years passed, it stood there, looking high up at the other bird, wondering why it had left, envying its friends. But then one day, a small caterpillar came and said, ‘Why don’t you try and free yourself? Just bite off that thread!’. The bird had forgotten that it could save itself while looking at the other bird, and too, that it will be able to fly high up in the sky. Will it be able to do it?”

12.18pm – Japanese food at $7. Hmm… not too expensive. I guess it’s just a normal foodcourt price. The quantity was quite a lot. Taste not too bad. Will probably try the omelette rice the next time.

Food – Tzi Char @ Hougang Mall Foodcourt

Most of the time, I wrote about food that I considered as quite alright or edible. But today, it’s going to be entirely different because I probably had one of the WORST food in my entire life. I seriously hope that they can close shop soon, or change the chefs.

I’m now sitting in the foodcourt of Hougang Mall, there’s only one at level 4. I skipped my usual Qiu Lian Ban Mian and had initially wanted to have some chicken rice. But weirdly, there’s NO chicken rice stall in Hougang Mall foodcourt. People who wants to become stall owners can probably consider selling this inside. Anyway, since I have no idea what to eat, I decided to check out this stall where at that point in time, there’s 2 people in front of me (unlike some of the stalls where there wasn’t any queue at all).

So what did I order? Sweet & sour fish.

There’s 2 Chinese working in that stall. The guy was cooking previously while the girl was frying some fish using those traditional deep fryer. As I stood there waiting, I already found it weird that why do they need to fry the fish using the deep fryer instead. But anyway, it could be the fact that later they cook the sauce at the other side and pour on it. But it gets weirder after the guy finished cooking and simply stood there without doing anything anymore (by this time, there’s only my order). And then I saw it…

The lady took out a few pieces of fried fish and put on the plate. Then another piece of egg that was cooked god-knows-when before that. And then a bowl of rice went onto the plate. The shocking moment came when she took out that bottle of ketchup or BBQ sauce and pour A BIT over the fish, and then threw in 2 pieces of cabbage, and handed it over to me.

My appetite wasn’t that good to begin with. And they made it worse. Got worsen even more after I tasted it. Why? The salt is free. Their fish tasted so extremely salty till I think they soaked it over night. I’m pretty sure something is very wrong with their taste bud.

*CONDEMNED* I’m never going to get anything else from this stall anymore.

Food – Korean Food @ Greenwich V

Somehow the craving was already there before I reached. And as I walked into the foodcourt, it caught my attention being at the first stall. I knew immediately what I wanted to eat.

Seriously, it’s quite fattening – Kimchi noodles, i.e. kimchi + instant noodles. But I simply needed something savoury and spicy. So without hesitation, after finding a seat, I headed to the stall. It was managed by 2 Chinese and the lady was quite friendly. After waiting for a while, mine was done.

First look. Doesn’t look really that appetizing. Of course, how many can cook kimchi noodles such as those that I like. Soft and bouncy… Anyway, first taste. Well, it’s spicy enough, but definitely not one of the nicest that I’d tasted. The noodles seem a little stiff still. My colleague who had Korean food too, wasn’t really impressed with their set either. SO I guess, this stall is out forever for the both of us.

Food – Teppanyaki @ NEX Foodcourt

Woohoo! It’s teppanyaki time! Been wanting to try this one out since God knows when. And my colleague’s in a really good mood to drive us down for lunch!

I’m currently at the Level 4 foodcourt in NEX, at Serangoon. The teppanyaki stall is just located on the right hand side of it. It’s not really very big. Probably can just accommodate around 30-40 people.

The pricing was still alright. I took the fish fillet set, and it cost be around $11.50. Of course, I can’t compare to 15 years ago where it probably cost only $6.90 (missing those times). Anyway, there are quite a range of varieties to choose from too.

The taste was okay though my colleague commented that the branch at Tampines is far better. Why? Because they never turn on the fire or heat at every seats! So basically it’s teppanyaki food and that’s about it. It’s not hot after a while, not even warm. That’s the negative, negative part which I’m not sure if they always does that. If it is, then indeed is a big minus point.

Well, I still got what I wanted so am not missing out any part. *Happy*
